Jamesetta Hawkins, dite Etta James, née le 25 janvier 1938 à Los Angeles, et morte le 20 janvier 2012 à Riverside, Californie, est une chanteuse américaine de jazz, soul, rock et rythm and blues.
Sa carrière s'étend sur six décennies. En 1960, elle connaît le succès avec sa reprise de At Last, écrite par Mack Gordon (en) et Harry Warren. Etta James a remporté six Grammy Awards et dix-sept Blues Music Awards.
En 2003, son album At Last! figure à la 116e place dans la liste des « 500 meilleurs albums de tous les temps » (« 500 Greatest Albums of All Time ») établie par le magazine musical américain Rolling Stone. Lorsque le magazine publie la liste des « 100 plus grands chanteurs de tous les temps » (« 100 Greatest Singers of All Time ») en 2008, Etta James apparaît à la 22e place. ll s'agit aussi de la troisième femme du classement derrière Aretha Franklin qui figure première et Tina Turner à la 17e place.
